Immigration Health Surcharge set to double
Last updated: 08/11/2018
From December 2018 the UK government will double the immigration health surcharge (IHS) for those applying for visas under the immigration rules from £200 per year of visa requested to £400 per year. Students and those applying for a Youth Mobility Visa will pay a discounted rate of £300 per year.
The fee was introduced in 2015 with funds raised going towards the cost of NHS services which those non UK residents were entitled to whilst living in the UK but never had to pay for.
This increase will further impact those individuals and businesses who use the immigration system by significantly increasing the cost to gain the right to be in the UK.
We advise ALL those looking to submit a visa application in the near future to do so (if practical) before the changes are implemented in order to save costs.
A Tier 2 worker sponsored for 3 years will now have to pay £1200 in IHS fees alone; whilst a family of four coming to the UK to settle with one parent being a UK national will need to pay £6000.
